Hi all, my name is Heather and I am an EFL teacher.
Currently I live in Hong Kong, I’ve been here all of 4 months and have so much left to see.
Namibia is a huge country with around 2.3 million people. We are short on water as a large portion of it is desert. For more on the beauty of my country look here:
I love my country but have always had a desire to see more, do more and be somewhere else. For Namibians and without any other citizenship it is difficult to escape and feed ones travel bug. Luckily for me I have dual citizenship and as soon as I got it 2 years ago I started to see the small light of hope.
I started my research over 8 years ago and reached a point where I thought I would never actually make it. I have always known that staying in one place would be a slow torture, so when I was given the chance to do my ESL training I took it. To be fair I had to do a lot of soul-searching before I grabbed what my amazing family was offering me.
While doing my research I didn’t find very many blogs for South African/Namibian expats and those that I did find did not seem to have what I was looking for.
The idea for the blog started out as a joke with my dearest friend Liz.,a way to keep everyone updated at the same time. Well, here I am today creating my blog and thinking of all the friends I dearly miss.
It is scary leaving the small safety net that one acquires by having people who love us around.
I don’t know where I am going to end up, or where I will go at the end of my contract all I do know is that I will keep travelling.
As Bilbo Baggins said:
“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
